Luxurious Mekong River Expedition Cruises Return to Vietnam and Cambodia

Aqua Expeditions announced the return of Aqua Mekong. In fall 2022, Aqua Mekong resumed cruising along the Mekong River through Vietnam and Cambodia, offering three-, four- and seven-night itineraries that embark from Ho Chi Minh City, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.

Launched in 2014, the 205-foot vessel accommodates 40 guests and showcases contemporary interiors by Vietnam-based Noor Studio. Its 20 generously sized suites feature full-length windows for panoramic views of the river and surrounding landscape. Public areas include a redesigned infinity pool deck and an alfresco dining area on the sun deck, a barbecue area, gym, spa, games room, theater-style screening room and an artisanal boutique. The vessel prioritizes safety, comfort and exclusivity while navigating a region famed for its temples, villages and riverside life. Aqua Mekong is distinctive on the Mekong for operating a fleet of four military-grade tenders, making shore excursions and river exploration convenient and comfortable for guests.

Culinary experiences are a highlight aboard the ship, led by Australian Michelin-starred chef David Thompson, who curates menus inspired by local flavors. Guests can deepen their appreciation for regional cuisine through onboard cooking classes that reveal the techniques and ingredients behind Thompson’s dishes. The ship’s bar program is developed by Proof & Company of Singapore, with an emphasis on craft spirits and sustainable practices using ecoSPIRITS.

The seven-night expedition sails north from Ho Chi Minh City to Siem Reap and includes twice-daily excursions that showcase the Mekong’s changing scenery and cultures. Activities range from guided visits to riverside markets, villages and religious sites to more active options such as cycling on mountain bikes and tuk-tuk rides. Excursions and activities are adapted to each guest’s interests and abilities, supported by Aqua Expeditions’ attentive service model, which features a 1:1 guest-to-crew ratio and an 8:1 guest-to-guide ratio.

“I am so excited to be back on the Aqua Mekong,” said Francesco Galli Zugaro, CEO and founder of Aqua Expeditions. “The ship, the staff, the food and the daily adventures on our private speed boats are the best way to experience the beauty of Vietnam and Cambodia. After hosting the first seven-night upriver voyage, it’s rewarding to see these two countries welcome travelers again with experiences that are unique to Aqua Expeditions.”

During the Mekong’s low-water season, Aqua Expeditions offers a Siem Reap extension that provides exclusive access to the UNESCO World Heritage site Angkor Wat. This extension includes luxury land transfer and flight arrangements in the cruise fare, offering a more comfortable alternative to the typical five-hour bus transfer used by many other operators.
