BrewDog Targets Expansion at Edinburgh Airport

Scottish brewery and pub chain BrewDog has opened its first airport venue. The new pub is part of the terminal extension at Edinburgh Airport and is scheduled to begin trading this summer.

The airport venue will offer a selection of BrewDog beers alongside a food menu. In addition to the brewery’s own range, the bar will feature beers chosen from craft breweries around the world to provide a broader selection for travellers. Edinburgh Airport said BrewDog is “the first of many establishments expected to open this year at Scotland’s busiest airport, widening choice and variety for the 13.4 million passengers who travel through the terminal every year.”

On its blog, BrewDog said additional airport bars are “pencilled into the plans for the future.” The company noted that many regional airports in the United States already host small-scale brewery taps, giving travellers access to local craft beer, and BrewDog aims to bring a similar experience to more airports.

Separately, BrewDog has been developing what it describes as the world’s first craft beer hotel. The DogHouse will be a 26-room property at the brewery in Aberdeenshire, with rooms overlooking the brewing operations. Planned guest amenities included in the original announcement are in-room beer taps and beer fridges adjoining showers; the hotel was scheduled to open in early 2019.

With the new airport location and other proposed outlets, BrewDog is expanding its reach into travel hubs and hospitality, offering travellers a wider choice of craft beer and a destination experience that links directly back to its brewing operations.
