Europe is even more rewarding with a Portugal stopover.
Portugal offers a rich mix of experiences—surfing, wine, golf and exceptional cuisine—and TAP Air Portugal’s stopover program makes it easy to explore them. TAP allows travelers to add a free stopover in Lisbon or Porto for one to ten days when booking certain routes, opening the door to an extra destination without extra airfare.
Surf lovers can take advantage of TAP’s current Surf in Portugal promotions. Portugal’s coastline provides year-round waves and a variety of conditions for surfing, bodysurfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and paddleboarding at well-known spots such as Nazaré, Carcavelos, Ericeira and Peniche. Through the Portugal Stopover surfing offer, travelers can visit two destinations and receive a 20 percent discount on surf lessons, plus special hotel rates. Participating surf schools include Fish Surf School, Lisbon Surf Tours and Onda Pura.
TAP operates 64 weekly nonstop flights from North America to Lisbon (LIS) from nine gateway cities—Newark (EWR), New York (JFK), Boston (BOS), Washington, D.C. (IAD), Miami (MIA), Chicago (ORD), San Francisco (SFO), Toronto (YYZ) and Montréal (YUL)—and two weekly flights from Newark to Porto (OPO). The airline connects to more than 65 destinations across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, including seven destinations within Portugal, 44 across Europe and the Middle East, and 15 in Africa.

The stopover can be booked on either the outbound or return leg of your journey. To add a stopover, check route eligibility in the booking menu by entering your origin and destination and selecting “Add a Stopover.” Choose Lisbon or Porto and complete your booking. When continuing onward to another country, the Portugal Stopover program does not charge extra airfare. Travelers can also take advantage of a 25 percent discount to visit a second destination in Portugal, making it simple to extend a stopover to regions such as the Azores or Madeira.
Additional stopover offers cater to diverse interests. Wine enthusiasts can enjoy 20 percent off a wine cellar tour in Lisbon or 15 percent off at Venâncio da Costa Lima Winery. Golfers will find special packages and tee-time offers in the Algarve and other prime golfing regions. Food lovers can sample Portugal’s fresh seafood and regional specialties through culinary promotions. The program also features cultural activities—museum tickets, guided tours, sightseeing cruises and electric tours—so travelers can tailor their stopover around their preferred experiences.
