Alaska Airlines and Finnair have launched a new loyalty partnership that lets members of each airline’s frequent flyer program earn miles on the other carrier.
As of May 22, Alaska’s Mileage Plan members can begin earning miles when flying Finnair, with award redemptions on Finnair to be introduced later this year. Finnair Plus members already have the ability to both earn and redeem miles on Alaska Airlines starting today.
Alaska recently announced a significant expansion of its San Francisco (SFO) operations, increasing service alongside Virgin America to offer a combined 83 daily departures to 35 destinations.
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with European favorite Finnair, as they launch their first West Coast service from our San Francisco hub to Helsinki on June 1,” said Andrew Harrison, executive vice president and chief commercial officer of Alaska Airlines. “Our Mileage Plan members will be able to fly Finnair to more than 60 destinations across Europe from San Francisco, Chicago and New York’s JFK.”
Juha Järvinen, Finnair’s chief commercial officer, commented, “We are very excited to collaborate with Alaska Airlines on this new frequent flyer partnership. Customers traveling to and from the U.S. will benefit from the combined network and expanded connectivity both airlines provide.”
This partnership strengthens transatlantic travel options by connecting Finnair’s European reach with Alaska’s U.S. West Coast network. For travelers, it means more route choices and greater flexibility when earning and redeeming miles through either loyalty program. Members should check each airline’s program pages for complete details on earning rates, eligible fare classes and when full award redemption capabilities become available.
