Olivier Bertrand’s fifth hotel property has reopened just off the Champs-Élysées, near the Arc de Triomphe in Paris’s 8th Arrondissement, following a complete interior reinvention. Hôtel Balzac officially reopened in June, unveiling a glass-roofed lounge, an upscale spa and refreshed guestrooms.

Housed in a turn-of-the-century building on the former site of novelist Honoré de Balzac’s residence, the hotel blends historical character with contemporary design. Interiors favor neutral tones, clean lines and refined materials such as wood and natural stone. Custom-made furniture channels the spirit of the 1930s and ’40s while embracing modern craftsmanship and comfort.
As a 5-star member of Relais & Châteaux, Hôtel Balzac offers 58 guestrooms and suites, some with open-air terraces and views reaching the Eiffel Tower. Rooms emphasize visual clarity and a warm atmosphere, enhanced by high ceilings and thoughtful finishes. Amenities include Nespresso machines, bath or shower options, Diptyque toiletries, minibars, Bluetooth speakers and more to ensure a comfortable stay.

Public spaces are designed for both relaxation and conviviality. The glass-domed lobby lounge provides a bright, sheltered space ideal for a leisurely breakfast or an afternoon pause. Guests can choose from light dishes such as a Caesar salad or a truffled croque-monsieur, accompanied by gourmet teas or freshly brewed coffee.
The hotel houses a discreet bar that channels a chic Parisian speakeasy vibe, offering a menu of carefully crafted cocktails—some cheekily named in a Balzacian vein—alongside a curated selection of fine wines and premium spirits. Small plates include Petrossian caviar specialties and a lobster roll, presented to complement the drink list.
This season also marks the opening of Ikoi Spa, a Japanese-inspired wellness space that adds a serene counterpoint to the hotel’s urban setting. For dinner, guests can reserve a table at the hotel’s acclaimed 3-Michelin-starred restaurant Pierre Gagnaire, which continues to draw gourmets seeking inventive cuisine.
Overall, Hôtel Balzac’s redesign balances Parisian elegance, historical resonance and contemporary comfort, creating a refined base from which to explore the surrounding golden triangle of the city. Whether visiting for leisure or business, guests benefit from thoughtful room amenities, polished public areas and a suite of dining and wellness offerings that reflect the hotel’s elevated positioning.
