United Airlines Launches Tool to Simplify Connecting Flights

United Airlines has launched a new tool designed to simplify tight connections for travelers. Called ConnectionSaver, the system automatically identifies departing flights that can be held briefly for connecting customers while still ensuring timely departures for passengers already on board. When a connection is at risk, ConnectionSaver sends text messages with clear directions to the connecting gate and an estimated walking time between gates.

“By combining better technology with a focus on reliable operations, customers with tight connections are making their flights,” said Toby Enqvist, chief customer officer at United. “With summer travel increasing, as many as 150,000 customers connect on United flights each day, and our goal is to equip employees and travelers with up-to-date information to make connections less stressful. ConnectionSaver works because it helps as many customers as possible without creating delays for others. That balance is what this technology has demonstrated. We remain committed to finding opportunities to serve and care for our customers — that commitment helps distinguish United from competitors.”

ConnectionSaver debuted at Denver International Airport in February and was later expanded to Chicago O’Hare International Airport. Since its initial rollout, the system has assisted more than 14,400 customers with connections. United plans to expand ConnectionSaver to all of its major hubs in the coming months and to activate the tool at additional airports added to United’s network.
