Housed in a converted early 20th-century cotton warehouse on the canal, LEVEN Manchester blends industrial heritage with contemporary design. Opened in December 2022 at the corner of Chorlton and Canal streets in the city’s vibrant Village neighborhood, the hotel features exposed brick walls and modern furnishings. It was the only Manchester hotel included in The London Sunday Times’ list of the 100 Best Places to Stay in the United Kingdom for 2023.
The building’s red brick façades and distinctive Crittall windows—black metal frames with horizontal bars often associated with Art Deco and Modernism—reflect its varied past as a cotton warehouse and, more recently, a brewery and comedy club. After a careful restoration and redesign, the 33,000-square-foot property now operates as a design-focused 42-room hotel that celebrates the site’s industrial character while offering contemporary comforts.

The hotel entrance occupies the original two-story loading dock, creating an impressive arrival sequence. Designers retained the building’s Victorian fabric—exposed brick, vaulted ceilings and cast-iron columns—while inserting contemporary details and finishes that enhance the historic structure.
The lobby centers on a brass-topped bar clad in emerald green scalloped tiles, paired with blackened steel fixtures, tall display units and bold statement lighting that frame a dramatic first impression. Comfortable green velvet sofas and soft leather armchairs provide relaxed seating areas for guests to gather.

A walkway links the lobby to a day-to-night lounge designed for socializing and working. A large canteen-style wooden table encourages coworking, while a turmeric-velvet corner sofa offers an ideal people-watching spot beneath original artwork by British artist Lillie Bernie.
All 42 rooms and suites are individually styled and vary in size and layout. Interiors feature oak parquet or timber floors, bespoke furniture, 100 percent natural mattresses by Naturalmat and Grown Alchemist bathroom amenities. Some rooms showcase high ceilings, exposed brick and freestanding bathtubs; others include fully equipped kitchenettes designed like wet bars. Every room includes a complimentary pair of limited-edition branded socks and a house-made breakfast smoothie.

The lobby and lounge serve pastries and snacks sourced from local suppliers, alongside LEVEN’s blended coffee, house-made cocktails, soft drinks and fresh juices. In-room dining is also available. This spring the hotel will open Maya, a 4,000-square-foot restaurant spread across three floors, each with its own atmosphere. Offerings include a canal-side brasserie with modern European classics and an elegantly designed ground-floor dining room focused on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients.
LEVEN Manchester’s central location on Canal Street places it a five-minute walk from Piccadilly Station and at the heart of a neighborhood known for its lively mix of bars, clubs, restaurants, independent shops and alfresco dining. The Village is a thriving center for Manchester’s LGBTQIA+ community, celebrated for its diversity and community spirit. Mid-March double occupancy rates start at £119 per night, while top-floor penthouses with expansive Canal Street views begin at £299. LEVEN Manchester is the first in a series of LEVEN lifestyle hotels that will incorporate coworking, co-living and retail spaces, featuring a curated selection of merchandise created for the Manchester opening.
