Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat Unveils Redesigned Villas and Penthouse

Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel is a five-star luxury resort set in the former fishing village of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat on the French Riviera. Welcoming guests for more than a century, the estate occupies 17 acres of landscaped grounds with sweeping views of the Mediterranean and offers 74 spacious guestrooms and suites. This year, Parisian designer Sybille de Margerie completed a redesign of two of the property’s three villas — Villa Beauchamp and Villa Clair Soleil — and refreshed the Penthouse.

Drawing on the seaside elegance of the early 20th century, de Margerie selected a refined, colorful palette and collaborated with skilled craftsmen and artisans to create interiors that feel both luxurious and intimately connected to their coastal setting. Each room is intended as a sensory experience that reflects the light and colors of the Mediterranean.

Villa Beauchamp embodies what many describe as Mediterranean luxury. Its interiors recall the luminous tones of Henri Matisse’s southern landscapes, combining warm golds with greens and blues that echo the sea and surrounding terrain.

In Villa Beauchamp’s dining room, de Margerie commissioned painter Claire Basler to paint a dreamlike fresco inspired by the umbrella pines in the garden. Window treatments by designer Karine Drasik are embroidered with mimosa motifs. From the first and second floors, guests enjoy expansive sea views, while original terrazzo flooring enhances the south-of-France ambiance. The adjacent bathroom features a mosaic floor that pays tribute to the decorative fresco tradition found locally, and deep blue accents continue into the two upper-floor bedroom suites. Villa Beauchamp also includes a private cinema room and a nearby state-of-the-art fitness room.

Villa Clair Soleil, built in the early 20th century, opens onto a generous panoramic terrace and features spacious living areas designed for relaxed entertaining. De Margerie’s scheme includes a dining room ceiling decorated with delicate scrolls and foliage, illuminated by a striking chandelier by designer Andreea Braescu. Marble flooring and abundant Provençal light define the first floor, while the two upper bedrooms display a hand-painted mural by artist Cécile Gauneau. Villa Clair Soleil also includes a pool with direct access to the garden.

The redesigned Penthouse occupies the top floor of the hotel’s historic building and was conceived to maximize the spectacular sea views. It now includes a Superior Pinewood Room and functions as an elegant two-bedroom apartment with approximately 1,080 square feet of furnished outdoor terraces, ideal for relaxation and entertaining.

Opened in 1908, the Grand Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat originally featured two wings set at an open angle. In 1909 the hotel added a loggia-style dining room and a central rotunda with bay windows, elements influenced by designs from Gustave Eiffel. The estate’s iconic 80-foot heated saltwater Club Dauphin Pool, added in 1939, overlooks the sea and is reached via a glass funicular. Frequently cited among the world’s most beautiful pools, it remains a defining feature of the property.

Today the hotel provides 74 guestrooms — including 24 suites, eight of which have private pools — in addition to the Penthouse and three private villas. The property typically closes each year from December through February.
