How United Airlines Is Simplifying Airport Travel for Passengers

United Airlines has added intelligent indoor mapping to its mobile app to make navigating airports easier and less stressful. The update guides customers from point A to point B while estimating walking time and highlighting options such as escalators, moving walkways, and other routes that can shorten travel time through terminals.

The maps also mark useful airport services and amenities—car rental counters, ATMs, restaurants, and airport hotels—so travelers can find what they need without hunting for kiosks or printed terminal maps. This level of detail helps passengers plan connections, locate services between flights, and move through busy hubs more efficiently.

The initial rollout covers United’s major hubs, including Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Denver (DEN), Houston (IAH), Los Angeles (LAX), New York/Newark (EWR), San Francisco (SFO), and Washington Dulles (IAD). The feature is designed to reflect each terminal’s layout and key points of interest, improving wayfinding in complex airport environments.

These indoor maps are available now in the United app for iOS. An Android release with the same functionality is scheduled for an update this autumn, ensuring that more travelers can benefit from the improved navigation tools across devices.
