Turkish Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines have announced a new codeshare agreement designed to streamline travel between Turkey and Hawai‘i. Under the arrangement, the Turkish Airlines TK designator will be placed on Hawaiian Airlines services that connect Osaka and Honolulu daily, and on Hawaiian’s five-times-weekly service between Seoul and Honolulu. Because Turkish Airlines already operates seven weekly flights between Istanbul and Osaka and 11 weekly flights between Istanbul and Seoul, the partnership will allow customers flying on TK to access convenient one-stop itineraries to Honolulu via those Asian gateways.
The planned codeshare services are subject to the usual regulatory approvals from civil aviation authorities before they can begin. Both carriers said they are working with authorities to secure the necessary permissions and expect the services to launch once approvals are in place. In addition to the Osaka–Honolulu and Seoul–Honolulu services, the two airlines are also exploring the possibility of extending codeshare arrangements to other routes, including potential cooperation on flights to and from New York (JFK) in the future.
Hawaiian Airlines emphasized the customer benefits of the agreement. Mark Dunkerley, president and CEO of Hawaiian Airlines, commented, “We look forward to introducing more Turkish Airlines customers to our authentic Hawaiian hospitality, award-winning on-time performance and quality of service on their journey from Istanbul to our island home.” The statement highlights Hawaiian’s focus on consistent service and punctuality as key advantages for travelers connecting from Turkey through Asia to Hawai‘i.
For Turkish Airlines customers, the codeshare will simplify booking and connections. Instead of arranging separate tickets for multiple carriers, passengers will be able to purchase a single ticket through Turkish Airlines that includes the Hawaiian Airlines-operated sector to Honolulu. That integrated ticketing model typically improves baggage handling, through-checking, and rebooking protection in the event of delays, making long-haul itineraries more seamless for travelers bound for Hawai‘i.
From a network perspective, the agreement leverages both carriers’ strengths. Turkish Airlines offers extensive connectivity between Istanbul and major Asian hubs such as Osaka and Seoul, while Hawaiian Airlines provides nonstop service across the Pacific to Honolulu from those cities. By combining these networks through codesharing, the partnership creates additional routing options for travelers in Europe and the Middle East seeking access to Hawai‘i without the need for multiple separate reservations.
The airlines’ cooperation may also provide commercial benefits beyond added schedule options. Codeshares typically support coordinated schedules, joint marketing, and aligned customer service policies, which can enhance the overall travel experience. Passengers could see more convenient connection times and clearer fare offers when booking through either carrier, along with the potential for closer operational coordination on the ground during transfers.
Practical details such as exact launch dates, ticketing availability, and the specific flight numbers to be marketed under the Turkish Airlines TK code will be announced once regulatory approvals are complete. Travelers planning trips between Istanbul and Hawai‘i via Osaka or Seoul should monitor both carriers’ official channels for updates and booking information. Meanwhile, the airlines indicated they will continue to evaluate additional route combinations that could benefit customers, including the possible inclusion of services to and from New York in a future phase of the partnership.
This codeshare move reflects a broader industry trend of airlines partnering to expand global reach without adding duplicate nonstop services. By aligning schedules and sharing codes, carriers can offer passengers more convenient itineraries and improved connectivity, particularly on long-haul markets where nonstop options are limited. For travelers from Turkey, Europe, or the Middle East, the new Turkish–Hawaiian codeshare promises a simpler path to experiencing Hawai‘i’s islands via well-timed connections in Osaka or Seoul.
