Guests experience history by the glass at The K Club, Hotel Resort and Country Club. Every Saturday evening the resort in Kildare, Ireland, welcomes wine lovers to explore its renowned cellar.
Lisa O’Doherty, the K Club’s award-winning sommelier, leads a complimentary tour of the hotel’s historic wine stores. On the tour she highlights aged and noteworthy bottles—everything from a 1928 Beychevelle to an extensive collection of Château Pétrus—then helps guests choose a bottle from the antique racks to enjoy with their dinner in the restaurant.
The K Club’s cellar is a showcase of elite winemaking. The collection spans decades and includes rare examples such as the 1928 Beychevelle and multiple first-growth vintages of Château Pétrus. Burgundy is well represented, and among the cellar’s most prized bottles is a 1990 La Romanée-Conti from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, a standout rarity. Beyond these historic labels, the sommelier has curated an eclectic selection of boutique and small-production wines from around the world, featuring producers such as Clarendon Hills and Giaconda from Australia, Dominus from Napa Valley, and L’Ermita from Priorat.
The cellar experience is designed to be both educational and personal: guests learn the stories behind the bottles, gain insight into aging and provenance, and leave with a carefully chosen wine to complement their meal. For collectors and casual drinkers alike, the K Club’s cellar offers a memorable connection to the history and craft of winemaking.
