Last month, Alaska Airlines unveiled newly retrofitted cabins after two years of customer research, blending top features from both Alaska Airlines and Virgin America to create a unified, modern onboard experience.
The updated cabins introduce a refreshed color palette that pairs neutral tones with Alaska’s signature blue, plus ambient mood lighting that adjusts throughout the flight. Passengers will find upgraded high-speed WiFi by Gogo with streaming capabilities, redesigned first-class seats with memory foam and footrests offering a generous 40-inch pitch, and ergonomic tablet holders at each seat. Premium and main cabin seats now include memory foam for added comfort, and every seat is equipped with conveniently tilted power outlets. First- and premium-class passengers also benefit from integrated cup holders.
“Just two years after acquiring Virgin America, we’re thrilled to introduce a modern cabin that aligns the onboard experience across our fleet,” said Ben Minicucci, president and COO of Alaska Airlines. “After extensive feedback from our guests and collaboration with our partners, we’ve infused the Alaska Airlines cabin with key brand elements from Virgin America — the result is a premium experience at an affordable price.”
The retrofit program is rolling out across Alaska’s Airbus A319, A320 and A321 aircraft throughout the year, with plans to update 35 percent of the mainline fleet by 2020. New Boeing Max 9 aircraft are delivered featuring the refreshed interior as well.
“Our guests are at the center of everything we do,” said Andrew Harrison, executive vice president and chief commercial officer at Alaska Airlines. “From relaxing in our lounges to being in the air, travelers want more control and comfort while still enjoying low fares and excellent service. That’s what we set out to deliver — a more relaxing travel experience so our guests can focus on their destination and leave the rest to us.”
