Finnair Introduces New In-Flight Dining on U.S. Routes

Finnair has introduced a new selection of menu items for long-haul flights departing from the United States, developed in collaboration with Chicago chef David Posey. Owner of Elske, a restaurant known for its Scandinavian influence and Nordic-inspired menu, Chef Posey worked with Finnair to design dishes specifically for business-class passengers.

The refreshed in-flight menu features thoughtfully composed dishes that highlight seasonal ingredients and Nordic culinary traditions. Examples include appetizers centered on roasted root vegetables and entrees such as slow-cooked pork neck, each combining simple components with well-balanced, robust flavors suited to dining at altitude.

“I am thrilled to partner with Finnair to bring a modern take on classic Nordic cuisine to business-class passengers,” said Chef David Posey. “I wanted to provide a taste of Scandinavia through fresh, seasonal dishes that embrace authentic flavors, and I’m excited to share some of my favorite traditional recipes in such a unique way.”

Maarit Keränen, head of in-flight food and beverage concepts at Finnair, welcomed the partnership: “We are very honored to introduce David Posey as our first Signature Chef from the United States. Cuisine is an important part of Nordic culture and something we prioritize at Finnair when considering in-flight services. Thanks to his acclaimed work and his Danish background, we’re confident that Chef Posey’s menu items will enhance the passenger experience and provide something special, unique and delicious for our customers on their journey to the Nordics.”

This collaboration underscores Finnair’s focus on elevating the in-flight dining experience by blending regional culinary identity with menus tailored for long-haul travel. By working with a chef who brings both local U.S. acclaim and a deep appreciation for Nordic flavors, the airline aims to offer business-class travelers dishes that feel authentic, seasonal and thoughtfully prepared.

The initiative also reflects a broader industry trend of airlines partnering with well-regarded chefs to create signature menus, emphasizing quality ingredients and distinctive regional tastes. Finnair’s choice to feature Nordic-inspired offerings seeks to connect passengers with the heritage of the airline’s home region while ensuring meals remain appealing and satisfying during international flights.

Passengers flying Finnair’s long-haul routes from the United States can expect menus that focus on clarity of flavor, seasonal produce and careful preparation—elements that translate well to the airline cabin environment and help present a memorable dining experience at 30,000 feet.
