American Airlines has announced a slate of new routes launching in 2019, expanding its presence across the Caribbean and Latin America from major U.S. hubs.
Beginning May 3, American will add a sixth Cuban destination to its network with daily nonstop service between Miami (MIA) and Santiago de Cuba (SCU). This addition strengthens the carrier’s connectivity to eastern Cuba and offers customers a new travel option to the country’s second-largest city.
On June 6, American will begin service from Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) to Durango International Airport (DGO) in Mexico. With this launch, American becomes the only U.S. carrier operating nonstop flights to both Durango and several other regional Mexican markets, improving access for travelers between Texas and northern Mexico.
Further route expansions take effect on June 8. New year‑round service will start between New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and Aruba (AUA), and between Charlotte (CLT) and Santo Domingo (SDQ). Both markets will include Saturday frequencies, providing passengers with additional weekend travel choices and convenient connections through American’s domestic network.
In addition to those year‑round routes, American will introduce seasonal service from Dallas between June and August, adding flights to Santo Domingo (SDQ), San Pedro Sula (SAP), and Tegucigalpa (TGU). These seasonal frequencies are timed to meet summer travel demand and support leisure and visiting‑friends‑and‑relatives traffic.
All of the new routes are currently on sale, allowing customers to book travel for the upcoming season.
“We have had a robust schedule of flights between the U.S. and the Mexico, Caribbean and Latin America region for years from our DFW and MIA hubs,” said Vasu Raja, vice president of network and schedule planning at American Airlines. “As we work to deliver the best network, these new routes reinforce our commitment to the region and provide new options for customers.”
These additions reflect American’s strategy to strengthen hub connectivity and expand point‑to‑point service where demand supports it. Travelers can expect more nonstop options, enhanced weekend frequency, and improved access to popular leisure and business destinations throughout the Caribbean and Latin America.
For customers planning trips next year, the new Miami–Santiago de Cuba daily flight, Dallas–Durango nonstop, the LaGuardia–Aruba and Charlotte–Santo Domingo year‑round services, and the seasonal Dallas routes to Santo Domingo, San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa create a broader set of choices for both leisure and business travel. With tickets on sale now, passengers can lock in schedules and fares for the upcoming travel season.
