The long-awaited 2017 Tanglewood summer music season has been announced, offering an engaging lineup of concerts and events. Best known as the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Tanglewood sits in the Berkshires between Stockbridge and Lenox, Massachusetts. For the coming season, organizers have added new family-friendly educational activities on Sunday afternoons, with sessions available before and after selected concerts.
Highlights include special programs such as Tanglewood Takes Flight: A Celebration of Birds and Music (July 27–30) in partnership with Mass Audubon. That series includes guided bird walks and a performance of Messiaen’s Catalogue of the Birds featuring Pierre-Laurent Aimard and the Piano Fellows of the Tanglewood Music Center. Events will take place at Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary as well as on the Tanglewood grounds. Tickets for the 2017 season went on sale January 29 through the official Tanglewood website.
