Qantas and Alaska Airlines Deepen Global Partnership with Expanded Routes

Qantas and Alaska Airlines have expanded their partnership to deliver more benefits for frequent flyers on both carriers. The two airlines already codeshare on 15 North American routes, and the recent changes add additional routes and upgraded lounge access for elite members.

Effective June 26, Qantas placed its code on five more Alaska Airlines routes, including four originating from San Francisco (SFO). The Australian carrier’s code now appears on daily Alaska flights between San Francisco and Orange County (SNA), Minneapolis–Saint Paul (MSP), Albuquerque (ABQ) and Kansas City (MCI), as well as on the Los Angeles (LAX) to San Jose (SJC) service. These additions expand booking options and streamline connections for passengers traveling between the U.S. and Qantas international services.

The partnership expansion also includes reciprocal lounge access for qualifying loyalty members. Qantas Gold members and above, as well as Qantas Club members, can use Alaska Airlines lounges in Los Angeles (LAX), Seattle (SEA), Anchorage (ANC) and Portland (PDX) when flying on Alaska and connecting to or from a Qantas international flight. This provides greater comfort and fewer transfer hassles for premium travelers making transpacific connections.

Conversely, members of Alaska’s Mileage Plan with MVP Gold status and higher gain entry to all 13 Qantas International Business lounges and 24 Qantas Club domestic lounges when traveling on Qantas-operated international or domestic flights. Additionally, Alaska Lounge members are included in the expanded access, giving them the ability to use Qantas lounges consistent with their membership level.

Beyond the immediate route additions and lounge reciprocity, the broader partnership strengthens connectivity between Australia and key U.S. gateway cities. Increased codeshare coverage helps travelers combine itineraries across both carriers more seamlessly, earn and redeem frequent-flyer benefits more easily, and enjoy improved lounge access at major hubs. For frequent flyers who travel regularly between North America and Australia, the changes offer more options for smoother connections and a more consistent premium experience.

Members interested in taking advantage of the expanded benefits should verify eligibility for lounge access and earning or redeeming miles on specific itineraries before booking, since lounge entry and accrual rules depend on ticketing, travel class and membership status. The extension of codeshares and reciprocal lounge privileges is intended to make transpacific travel more convenient and rewarding for loyal customers of both airlines.
