Often celebrated as one of Michigan’s best beach towns and recognized among America’s top foodie destinations, Traverse City is a lively spot for spring and summer events. On May 2–3, Sip & Savor offers brunch-style wine and food pairings at 17 wineries along the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail. In June, wine lovers can attend Divas Uncorked on June 12 at venues across the Old Mission Peninsula, enjoy the Leland Wine and Food Festival on June 13 with food, music and regional wines, and experience the Traverse City Wine & Art Festival on June 20.
Additional local happenings begin with a Downtown Art Walk on May 1 and Old Mission Blossom Day on May 16. From May 15–16, the Empire Asparagus Festival brings a playful celebration of the region’s asparagus harvest: festivals feature live music, performances, sports activities, asparagus cook-offs and the unique Ode to Asparagus Poetry Competition. On June 14, the Traverse Colantha Walker Dairy Festival honors the town’s beloved cow with a pancake breakfast, a farmers market, arts and crafts, the Great Grilled Cheese Grill-Off and a commemorative parade in Colantha’s memory.
These seasonal events highlight Traverse City’s culinary scene, local agriculture and vibrant arts community, making the area an appealing destination for visitors seeking food, wine and family-friendly festivities throughout late spring and early summer.
