Pittsburgh Airport Opens Airside Access for Non-Travelers: What to Know

Pittsburgh International Airport, with approval from the Transportation Security Administration, has launched myPITpass, becoming the first U.S. airport to allow non-ticketed visitors past the security checkpoint for shopping and dining. The program, which began earlier this week, enables guests to access airside terminals without an airline ticket while following the same security procedures required of travelers.

To obtain a myPITpass, visitors must enter the airport through the third-floor ticketing level, check in, present a valid photo ID and receive a stamped myPITpass before proceeding through security. Holders are subject to the same screening as passengers and should not carry prohibited items, including weapons. The airport emphasizes that travelers maintain priority in security lines over pass holders. myPITpass is issued for single-day use and is available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“Since I started here, people have been asking about shopping and dining at the airport. We have worked closely with the TSA on this program. This program builds on our successful Holiday Open House program and Airside access for guests of the airport Hyatt hotel,” said Christina Cassotis, CEO of the Allegheny County Airport Authority.

Karen Keys-Turner, federal security director for PIT at the TSA, expressed the agency’s support: “The Transportation Security Administration is pleased to support Pittsburgh International Airport on the launch of their myPITpass program. Participants should be prepared to receive the same level of security screening as travelers and should ensure they’re not carrying any prohibited items such as weapons before coming through the security checkpoint. We look forward to working with the airport on this program.”

The initiative aims to broaden public access to the airport’s retail and dining options while maintaining safety and efficient screening operations. By requiring a valid ID, same-day stamping and adherence to passenger screening procedures, myPITpass balances convenience for local visitors with the airport’s security priorities. Interested visitors should plan their visit during the weekday hours when passes are issued and allow extra time if passenger traffic is high.
