Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport will gain a new TEX Rail commuter station as part of a major regional rail expansion. The 27-mile TEX Rail line, with an estimated budget of $500 million, will connect downtown Fort Worth to DFW Airport, terminating at a dedicated station at Terminal B. That Terminal B station is currently under construction with a budget of approximately $28.4 million.
Service on the TEX Rail line is expected to begin in late 2018, with trains operating at roughly 30-minute intervals. The addition of this commuter rail service will provide a frequent, direct connection between Fort Worth-area communities and the airport.
DFW Airport is already linked to the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) light-rail system via a station at Terminal A. To improve passenger connections between the two systems, project planners are developing a walkway that will allow travelers to transfer conveniently between the TEX Rail station at Terminal B and the existing DART station at Terminal A.
Operationally, the new TEX Rail line will primarily serve communities to the west and northwest of the airport, including Fort Worth and North Richland Hills. In contrast, DART rail lines serve communities to the east and north such as Dallas, Irving, Richardson and Plano. Together, the two systems will provide broader regional coverage and more travel options for passengers accessing DFW Airport.
When complete, the TEX Rail connection to Terminal B will expand transit choices for both airport employees and passengers, offering a reliable link to downtown Fort Worth and surrounding suburbs. The planned walkway between terminals will streamline transfers and help integrate the new commuter service with the existing regional rail network, making trips to and from DFW Airport more convenient and efficient.
