United Airlines has reached an agreement with Viasat, Inc. to equip more than 70 aircraft with Viasat’s in-flight entertainment and connectivity system over the coming months.
The collaboration aims to deliver upgraded in-flight entertainment and more reliable internet service for passengers. Viasat’s high-capacity satellite network provides fast, high-quality internet, and the new generation of IFEC (in-flight entertainment and connectivity) systems will expand United’s Private Screening options, enabling travelers to stream hundreds of movies and TV titles directly to their personal devices.
“We’re pleased to expand our relationship with United, now providing direct internet and entertainment services to them and their customers,” said Don Buchman, vice president and general manager, commercial aviation at Viasat.
Viasat emphasizes that the program focuses on enhancing the overall passenger experience by combining stronger connectivity with a broader entertainment catalog. Improved streaming performance and more robust onboard Wi-Fi will help travelers stay productive, entertained, and connected throughout their flights.
United will install Viasat’s latest technology across a significant portion of its fleet, including at least 58 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The rollout is expected to progress over the coming months as installations are completed and systems are tested for service.
For passengers, the upgrades should mean smoother web browsing, more consistent streaming, and easier access to United’s Private Screening content library directly from smartphones, tablets, or laptops—reducing the need to use seatback screens and offering a more personalized entertainment experience.
Airlines increasingly prioritize high-capacity satellite connectivity to meet passenger demand for streaming and real-time communication. By adopting Viasat’s IFEC platform, United aims to strengthen its onboard digital offering and keep pace with growing expectations for fast, dependable in-flight internet and an expansive selection of entertainment options.
