Emirates has announced it will begin daily Airbus A380 service between Dubai (DXB) and Barcelona (BCN) starting February 1, 2014. The airline will replace the current Boeing 777-300ER on this route with the A380, increasing capacity by nearly 44 percent and adding 2,198 seats per week between the two cities.
“Barcelona has been one of the most successful new destinations of 2012,” said Hubert Frach, divisional senior vice president of commercial operations west at Emirates. “With this steady growth, we believe now is the right time to introduce A380 service, which will strengthen connections from Spain to Dubai and onward to Australasia, the Indian Subcontinent and the Far East.”
The Emirates A380 used on the route carries 517 passengers: 14 first class suites, 76 business class seats and 427 economy seats. At the time of the announcement, Emirates’ A380 fleet was serving 21 destinations, with plans to add four more within six months: Brisbane (BNE) from October 1; Los Angeles (LAX) from December 2; Mauritius (MRU) from December 16; and Zurich (ZRH) from January 1, 2014.
