Stay at Picasso’s First Barcelona Studio — Now a Design Hotel

Picasso’s first studio on Passeig de Colom in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter has reopened as The Serras, a member of Design Hotels. The building retains its Neo-Classical façade, designed by Francesc Daniel Molina, while the interior now features bright, luxurious accommodations and high-quality dining led by Michelin-starred chef Marc Gascons. One suite, known as the Picasso Suite, marks the place where the artist painted his notable work Ciencia y Caridad.

The hotel offers 28 guestrooms and suites, each thoughtfully appointed with private balconies, smart HD televisions, wireless sound systems and Hypnos mattresses for comfort. Bathrooms feature Hansgrohe showers and Malin & Goetz toiletries. Spanish designer Eva Martinez crafted an elegant interior that draws on local traditions and contemporary style to create a refined, welcoming atmosphere throughout the property.

Visitors can enjoy a rooftop terrace with striking views of the Mediterranean and the recently renovated Marina of Port Vell. The Serras is conveniently located within walking distance of Las Ramblas and Soho House Barcelona, making it a practical base for exploring the city’s historic center, cultural attractions and waterfront.

Beyond its rooms and views, the hotel emphasizes an immersive Barcelona experience: a restored historical façade that connects to the city’s past, interiors that celebrate local design, and culinary offerings that highlight regional flavors with a modern, sophisticated touch. The combination of heritage architecture, contemporary comfort and expert gastronomy makes The Serras notable for travelers seeking a refined stay in the heart of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter.
