United Airlines Expands Flights to Puerto Rico: New Routes & Dates

United Airlines is increasing its service between Newark (EWR) and San Juan (SJU) and launching new flights to Havana, Cuba.

Beginning Dec. 18, United will operate six weekly flights between Newark and San Juan using Boeing 777 aircraft. These year-round flights will run every day except Tuesday, replacing the current single 767 service the carrier operates on the route. The expanded schedule responds to growing demand for larger capacity and more frequent service.

A United spokesperson explained the carrier needed to increase both frequency and aircraft size to better handle temperature-controlled shipments destined for Puerto Rico’s pharmaceutical and other companies. The new schedule is already available in United’s booking system.

United is marking 25 years of service to Puerto Rico with this expansion. “This announcement is just the beginning, and we look forward to continuing to do business with customers throughout the island,” said Millie Uriarte, regional director of sales for Puerto Rico, United Airlines.

In addition to the San Juan increase, United will launch daily flights between Newark and Havana (HAV) starting Nov. 29. A separate Sunday-only service from Houston (IAH) to Havana will begin in December. These additions reflect United’s efforts to broaden connectivity between its U.S. hubs and Caribbean destinations.

The carrier’s adjustments aim to support both passenger travel and cargo needs, particularly for industries requiring specialized handling. Travelers and shippers can find the updated schedules and book seats through United’s reservation channels.
