Melia Hotels International has announced plans to expand its presence in Cuba by adding eight new properties across its Melia Hotels & Resorts, Innside by Melia, and Sol House brands. The move reinforces the company’s commitment to the Cuban market and supports a broader multi-destination strategy across the island.
In Cienfuegos, Melia will bring three hotels into its portfolio: the 56-room San Carlos Hotel and the 49-room Union Hotel, both under the Melia Hotels & Resorts brand, and the 173-room Jagua Hotel, which will operate under the Innside by Melia brand. These additions strengthen Melia’s footprint in a city known for its coastal charm and historic architecture.
Trinidad will see two new Melia-managed properties. The Sol House brand will debut a 279-room Ancon Hotel, while Melia Hotels & Resorts will introduce a new-build 102-room property. Both properties target leisure travelers looking to experience Trinidad’s colonial center and nearby beaches.
In Camagüey, Melia will manage two historic city-center hotels under the Melia brand, and the group will add the 142-room Hotel Camagüey to its Innside by Melia portfolio. These moves expand Melia’s reach into Cuba’s central region and emphasize the company’s interest in culturally rich, urban destinations.
“These eight hotels are an important challenge which we face with great enthusiasm and responsibility, given that we are also taking on a commitment to strengthen the multi-destination vacation segment, guaranteeing the service and quality of the Melia, Innside and Sol House brands from the east to the west of the island,” said Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, vice president of Melia.
Under an agreement with Cuban hotel groups Gran Caribe, Cubanacan and Islazul, Melia will assume responsibility for the properties during a transitional period from November 1 through the end of the year. This transitional management phase will allow Melia to align operations and brand standards across the newly added hotels.
The company already manages 27 properties in Cuba, including three in Havana: Melia Cohiba, Melia Habana, and Tryp Habana Libre. The new additions will broaden Melia’s Cuban portfolio, offering guests a wider range of accommodation options across key cities and coastal areas.
By integrating these eight properties into its network, Melia aims to enhance its offering for travelers seeking varied Cuban experiences—ranging from historic city centers and cultural attractions to beachside relaxation—while ensuring consistent service quality across its Melia, Innside, and Sol House brands.
