Hilton Worldwide recently announced that Hotel Saranac will join Curio – A Collection by Hilton, the company’s portfolio of distinctive upscale properties. The hotel is scheduled to reopen next year following a brief closure for renovations that will refresh the property while preserving its historic character.
Nestled in Saranac Lake, N.Y., Hotel Saranac blends a rural Adirondack setting with modern amenities. The redesign emphasizes the building’s original charm while upgrading guest-focused features and services. Roedel Companies, which acquired the property in December 2013, is partnering with Hilton on the conversion.
“We’re pleased to bring Hotel Saranac into the collection in partnership with Roedel Companies,” said Matt Wehling, senior vice president, development, North America, Hilton Worldwide. “Hilton is excited to support their commitment to the local community and the future of this landmark. Its rich history and distinctive character are precisely what Curio seeks in its properties.”
Hotel Saranac originally opened in 1927 and served as a training center for Paul Smith’s College. The updated hotel will feature 100 guestrooms and a full-service wellness area called Ampersand, which will include a luxury spa, salon and fitness center. Dining will be centered on Campfire, Adirondack Grill & Bar, offering locally inspired flavors in a warm, inviting setting.
The property will also provide event and meeting facilities in its Grand Hall, a space designed with décor that evokes the atmosphere of a European castle, creating an elegant backdrop for conferences, receptions and private gatherings.
Guests will find easy access to downtown Saranac Lake, with its vibrant arts scene, locally driven restaurants and theater offerings. The surrounding region is ideal for outdoor recreation year-round, including hiking, biking, golfing and skiing, making the hotel a convenient base for both leisure and active travelers.
“Hotel Saranac has long been a treasured part of the community and offers visitors a special way to experience the Adirondacks,” said Dianna Vaughan, senior vice president and global head, Curio – A Collection by Hilton and DoubleTree by Hilton. “The new design will honor the natural beauty of the area while providing the comfort and luxury our guests expect.”
