The new National Comedy Center has opened in Jamestown, western New York, offering a fresh, entertaining destination dedicated to the history and craft of American comedy. With more than 50 exhibits, the center is the first museum to focus exclusively on comedy in the United States, giving visitors behind-the-scenes access to the creative processes of leading comedians.
The experience is designed to be interactive and immersive. Guests can participate in educational games, friendly competitions and lighthearted activities like staged pie fights. On arrival, visitors can create a personal humor profile that guides them to exhibits and content matched to their comedic tastes. The center also provides in-depth looks at the professional side of comedy, including comedy writing, live stand-up performance opportunities and cartooning demonstrations. The venue is available for private events for groups of 20–200, with a dedicated event manager to assist with planning.

The National Comedy Center collaborates with a wide range of partners and estates, including Dan Aykroyd, Carl Reiner, the Harpo Marx family, Joan Dangerfield, the Garry Shandling estate, the Lenny Bruce Memorial Foundation, the Smithsonian Institution, “Weird Al” Yankovic and Paramount Pictures. These partnerships enrich the exhibits with rare artifacts, recordings and firsthand perspectives from comedy’s most influential figures. The center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 203 West Second Street.
Jamestown’s connection to comedy is notable: it is the hometown of Lucille Ball. Nearby, the Lucille Ball Desi Arnaz Museum at 2 West 3rd Street displays film and television memorabilia, personal artifacts from the couple’s lives, costumes, photographs and awards, making the area a strong cultural hub for fans of classic television and comedy history.
