Delta Resumes Flights to Cuba: What Travelers Need to Know

After a 55-year pause, Delta Air Lines has resumed passenger service to Cuba. The carrier will operate daily flights to Havana (HAV) from Miami (MIA), New York (JFK) and Atlanta (ATL).

Delta previously flew scheduled service to Cuba until 1961, when operations were suspended amid political instability and declining profitability. At the time it suspended service, Delta was the last U.S. carrier to operate the Havana–New Orleans (MSY) route.

The inaugural Miami-to-Havana flight, Delta 625, is scheduled to depart Miami International Airport at 8:59 a.m. and arrive at José Martí International Airport shortly after 10:00 a.m. This marks Delta’s first regularly scheduled passenger arrival in Havana since the earlier suspension.

Delta flight 448 from New York is expected to arrive before noon, while flight 639 from Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport is scheduled to land around 1:30 p.m.

“We are pleased to welcome Delta Air Lines’ direct route from Atlanta to Cuba’s capital, solidifying Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport not only as the world’s busiest airport, but also the gateway to the world,” said Kasim Reed, mayor of Atlanta. “During a recent trade mission to Cuba, Georgia business and government leaders explored partnership opportunities in airport management, logistics, food exports, information technology and tourism. Atlanta is well-positioned to be a key U.S. partner for Cuba, and this route will create new business and tourism connections.”

Delta is one of eight carriers authorized by the U.S. Department of Transportation to serve Havana. The airline began operating flights to Cuba in September and, in November, became the first U.S. carrier to open a city ticket office in Havana to support local sales. Combined, these routes will provide nearly 3,000 weekly seats between the United States and Cuba.

Passengers traveling on Delta’s Cuba routes will have access to Delta Sky Clubs, featuring upgraded food and beverage selections and SkyPriority lanes. Onboard, travelers can expect complimentary refreshments, free in-flight entertainment and Wi-Fi on select aircraft.
