United Airlines has revealed a refreshed aircraft livery that introduces three shades of blue, replacing the gold tones that have been common across much of the airline’s current fleet. The globe emblem remains on the tail but is rendered in a new blue hue, and the engines and wingtips have been updated to match. The United name is displayed more prominently on the fuselage, while the lower half of the aircraft is finished in a neutral gray.
“As we improve and elevate our customer experience, we are changing the way people think and feel about United, and this branding captures that new spirit,” said Oscar Munoz, CEO of United Airlines. He noted that each service enhancement supports the airline’s ongoing evolution and efforts to redefine customer service in the sky. The modernized design, Munoz added, reinforces United’s image and values while signaling the direction the airline will take as it continues to serve customers.
The updated color palette is intended to create a more soothing, relaxed travel atmosphere. These hues are not limited to aircraft — they are also being incorporated into new uniforms for front-line employees, providing a consistent visual identity across the customer experience.
The rollout will cover narrow-body, wide-body, and regional aircraft over the coming year. United typically repaints aircraft on a roughly seven-year cycle, and this refresh will be applied during scheduled maintenance and repaint windows as part of that cadence.
This change reflects a broader branding effort to align the airline’s visual presentation with its service priorities, emphasizing clarity, calm, and a cohesive look across planes and personnel. By enlarging the wordmark and refining the color scheme, United aims to make its fleet more recognizable while projecting a refreshed, contemporary image that supports passenger comfort and the carrier’s service goals.
As the new livery is implemented fleetwide, travelers and observers can expect to see the range of blue tones appear across different aircraft types and in airport environments where United operates. The shift from gold to blue, paired with the gray lower fuselage and prominent United name, offers a modernized aesthetic intended to feel both familiar and newly refreshed to the flying public.
