Air Canada Adds In-Flight Wi-Fi: What Travelers Need to Know

Air Canada has outfitted its Boeing 777-300ER fleet with high-quality streaming WiFi and plans to extend the service across its other wide-body aircraft, including the 777-200LR, 787-8, 787-9, Airbus A330 and 767-300ER models.

The airline reports it has begun the rollout and is updating its website as aircraft receive the upgrade. At present, all 19 of its 777-300ERs are fitted with the streaming WiFi system, and one of the six 777-200LRs has been upgraded so far.

Air Canada says this marks the first time a Canadian carrier offers the ability to stream TV and movies in-flight over the internet.

“Air Canada customers on international wide-body flights will have access to the fastest internet service available on any Canadian carrier. Air Canada WiFi will make travelling more enjoyable whether you’re connecting with family and friends, watching a favourite movie or TV programme, or scrolling through your social media feeds,” said Benjamin Smith, president, passenger airlines, Air Canada.

He added that the speed and reliability of the service will also benefit business travellers, allowing them to stay connected and productive during flights so they can remain up to date and arrive prepared for meetings or events.
