Turkish Airlines and KM Malta Airlines, the flag carrier of Malta, signed a codeshare agreement last month to operate joint flights. Turkish Airlines also finalized a freesale codeshare agreement with Air China.
Under the KM Malta Airlines agreement, KM Malta will place its marketing flight numbers on Turkish Airlines services between Istanbul and Malta, and Turkish Airlines will do the same on KM Malta-operated services where applicable. This arrangement gives passengers more flexible options on direct flights linking the two cities. Tickets for these services are now on sale.

Bilal Eksi, CEO of Turkish Airlines, commented on the KM Malta partnership: “We are pleased that the codeshare agreement with KM Malta Airlines will strengthen cooperation between the two countries and provide seamless journeys for passengers traveling between Malta and Türkiye. This partnership allows Maltese travelers to access Turkish Airlines’ global network more easily, while also encouraging more visitors from Malta to discover Türkiye. Likewise, Malta, a captivating Mediterranean island nation, is expected to draw more visitors. We look forward to a successful, long-standing collaboration.”
The freesale codeshare arrangement with Air China initially covers services between Istanbul and Beijing and represents a significant step in strategic collaboration between the two carriers. The agreement increases scheduling flexibility and expands travel options on this important city pair, supporting tourism and economic ties between Türkiye and China.
Both agreements reflect a broader industry trend toward partnerships that improve connectivity, simplify booking, and enhance the passenger experience. Codeshare and freesale arrangements let airlines coordinate schedules and share marketing space, giving travelers more convenient itineraries and better access to frequent flyer benefits and coordinated customer service across partner networks.
For passengers, these developments mean more direct choices, improved connections, and easier access to onward destinations through partner networks. Travelers should check both carriers’ websites or contact their travel agents for detailed schedules, fare conditions, and booking options for flights marketed by either airline under the new codeshare and freesale agreements.
