Most business travelers are not opposed to employers using GPS tracking to monitor work-related trips, even if some view it as a potential intrusion on privacy.
According to Travelport’s 2018 US Business Traveler and Travel Policy report, 55 percent of business travelers are comfortable with employers tracking their travel via GPS, while 45 percent would object. The survey provides insights into how travelers feel about monitoring and other aspects of corporate travel policy.
Overall adherence to company travel rules appears high: 69 percent of respondents said they always follow their employer’s travel policies, and another 26 percent indicated they often do. In addition, 89 percent reported that their employers are mindful of how business travel impacts employees’ personal lives.
The report also found that most companies allow employees to retain miles and loyalty rewards earned during business trips. Further, 57 percent of respondents said their organizations increased business travel budgets in 2018, and 85 percent indicated they receive reimbursement for common expenses such as in-flight WiFi and checked baggage.
