How to Carry Laptops on Emirates Flights to the U.S.

After the United States implemented a ban on carrying large electronic devices in the cabin on certain flights from the Middle East, Emirates introduced a handling service for laptops and tablets on its U.S.-bound routes.

This service is available to passengers departing from Dubai (DBX) on flights to the United States. Travelers may use their laptops and tablets at the gate prior to boarding, then hand them to a gate agent when boarding begins. Gate agents pack the devices into specially prepared boxes, load them into the aircraft hold, and ensure they are returned to the passenger at the U.S. destination.

Although the service is provided free of charge, Emirates advises passengers to avoid it when possible. The airline recommends that travelers pack electronic devices in checked luggage before arriving at the airport to prevent potential delays at the gate.

The restrictions were put in place by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration and took effect on March 25. In response, Emirates said it would add staff at Dubai to help manage the process and assist passengers affected by the new rules.
