Last week W Washington DC announced the completion of a $50 million redesign. The hotel, which opened a decade ago, now features a refreshed lobby, redesigned guestrooms and updated dining and drinking spaces that highlight both modern design and local character.
The renovation expanded the total number of guestrooms to 326, including 31 suites. Hallways now showcase neon art and playful, politics-inspired motifs. Guestrooms were reconfigured with open layouts, larger bathrooms with marble vanities, modular seating and design elements that reference Washington’s history and political culture. The Extreme WOW Suite, the property’s flagship suite, includes a dramatic floor-to-ceiling mural, mirrored ceilings and 1.5 bathrooms.
Public spaces received major updates as well. The rooftop bar, POV, which offers views of the White House, was redesigned to be a year-round destination with retractable glass windows. Its cocktail program is paired with an ocean-to-table menu. The hotel also introduced two new culinary concepts: Cherry, centered on an open-fire kitchen and from-scratch preparations, and Corner Office, a casual spot featuring a broad beer selection and wood-fired pizzas.
“From two brand-new restaurants offering distinct culinary experiences to reimagined, design-led suites and new event spaces, the transformation boldly captures what W stands for,” said Meade Atkeson, general manager of W Washington DC. “As W Washington DC continues to turn the traditional luxury experience in DC on its head, we are thrilled to welcome guests back to take in all that we have to offer.”
Anthony Ingham, global brand leader for W Hotels, noted the project’s significance: “It’s been a decade since W Washington DC opened its doors and forever transformed the nation’s capital with a bold and dynamic energy that has been embraced by the city’s power players and visitors alike. This complete reimagining further cements the hotel as an essential destination in the heart of the city and marks a key milestone in our broader renovation strategy across W properties in North America.”
The redesign aims to blend contemporary luxury with playful, locally inspired details, creating a destination for both business and leisure travelers. Updated event spaces and dining options provide new choices for meetings, private events and social gatherings, while the refreshed guestrooms and suites offer modern comfort and distinctive design touches that reflect Washington’s civic life.
With its renewed public areas, expanded room inventory and new food-and-beverage concepts, W Washington DC positions itself as a vibrant option for visitors seeking a design-forward hotel experience within easy reach of the city’s landmarks and cultural institutions.
