Arrival/Check-In: InterContinental Miami sits along Biscayne Bay in downtown Miami, a convenient location for both business and leisure travelers. The hotel is busy, but arrival and departure were smooth during my stay. Although self-parking isn’t available, the valet service was efficient—dropping off the car never caused a delay, and retrieval typically took only a minute or two. The lobby is spacious with a dramatic vaulted ceiling, a seating area, a bar and the Toro Toro restaurant up front. Check-in and concierge desks are located to the left; with several attendants on duty, I was checked in quickly and headed to my executive-level room on the 29th floor with access to the Club InterContinental Lounge within minutes.
Guest Quarters: My room offered an outstanding view of Biscayne Bay, the cruise ship terminal and South Beach through a wide wall-to-wall window. While the panoramic view was a highlight, the room lacked an outdoor balcony or an opening window panel. The workspace was practical: an L-shaped desk oriented toward the view with multiple power outlets and an Ethernet connection, and a comfortable settee in the opposite corner suited for working on a laptop. Drapery controls were conveniently mounted near the king-sized bed, and the alarm clock included an iPod docking station. A large flat-screen television sat on a credenza across from the bed. The marble bathroom was clean and functional, though the layout felt a bit awkward because the closet and in-room safe were located inside the bathroom space.
Services and Amenities: Upgrading to an executive-level room generally costs an additional $40–$70 per night depending on season and demand. The upgrade includes key-card access to the Club InterContinental Lounge, which provides a daily continental breakfast, complimentary beverages throughout the day, evening cocktails and hors d’oeuvres that can serve as a light meal, and lounge Wi-Fi. In-room high-speed Internet is available for a fee, and health club access is included for lounge guests. The hotel also features a 10-room spa and a small rooftop pool and bar with bay views. The lobby bar and Toro Toro restaurant draw an active after-work crowd.
The Experience: InterContinental Miami is approximately seven miles from Miami International Airport and conveniently close to the Brickell financial district, the Port of Miami, Bayside Marketplace and the American Airlines Arena. Its central location makes it an excellent choice for business travelers, and proximity to public transportation makes it easy for visitors to explore other parts of the city.
