At 100 years old, Hôtel Plaza Athénée is preparing for its next century. The iconic Paris hotel will close for renovations in October and is scheduled to reopen in May 2014. As part of the refurbishment, several of the property’s most recognizable fixtures and decorative pieces will be sold at auction.
Among the items offered are the celebrated bar from Le Bar, designed by Patrick Jouin in 2001; the Art Déco–style furnishings from the Relais Plaza brasserie; and the distinctive spoon-and-fork sculpture that marked the entrance to the Alain Ducasse restaurant. These pieces will be on public display from October 4–6, with the auction taking place on October 8 at Artcurial in the Hôtel Marcel Dassault.
“Hôtel Plaza Athénée is one of the world’s most legendary properties, with a rich heritage and a prime location in the heart of Paris,” said François Delahaye, COO of Dorchester Collection and general manager of Hôtel Plaza Athénée. “While it remains among the top hotels internationally, the sensitive refurbishments will revitalize the property and guide it into its next century.”
