Brooklyn’s Largest Hotel Reopens After Major Renovation

The iconic New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge is preparing to reveal the first phase of a multimillion-dollar renovation and transformation next month.

This $43 million makeover will be completed in phases and is designed to better reflect the hotel’s downtown Brooklyn setting. In May, the hotel will debut a refreshed lobby experience that includes a redesigned bar, a reimagined front desk area and a new M Club Lounge created specifically for frequent Marriott Rewards members.

Positioned just off the hotel’s grand entrance, the bar was developed with input from Brooklyn artists and artisans and features original artwork, glass and metal accents, subway tile and white marble countertops. The menu highlights locally sourced food and beverages from Brooklyn, including craft beers and specialty coffee.

The new M Club Lounge draws on natural materials—wood, rope and nautical knots—to echo the nearby Brooklyn Navy Yard. The spacious, light-filled lounge includes a large communal table and a casual menu of items available throughout the day, making it a welcoming space for work or relaxation.

The front desk has been redesigned into three separate reception pods to create more personal, efficient interactions with guests. In collaboration with the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, the concierge team will be well versed in local culture and events to help visitors make the most of their stay in Brooklyn.

Carlo Scissura, president and CEO of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, noted the hotel’s long-standing influence in downtown Brooklyn: “Like many great pioneers, Marriott set the bar high when they opened the first hotel in Downtown Brooklyn almost two decades ago. Now, after 17 years of tremendous success — and having paved the way for countless other hotels to open in our great borough — New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge is taking it to the next level once again with this incredible renovation plan. This revamp will only improve an already beautiful hotel, making it an even bigger attraction to tourists from across the country and the world. The Brooklyn Chamber and ExploreBK.com are also thrilled to partner with the hotel to assist visitors in finding the very best that Brooklyn has to offer.”

Work on the hotel’s ballroom and meeting rooms is scheduled for completion in September. This spring the property will also reveal redesigned guest rooms, with renovations across all 667 guestrooms slated to finish in 2016.
