Vintage Christmas in Virginia City, Nevada — Holiday Events & Attractions

It’s all Victorian charm in Virginia City, where the annual Christmas on the Comstock celebration honors the town’s 19th-century heritage. During December, the town offers a variety of family-friendly events: Breakfast with Father Christmas at Piper’s Opera House (Dec. 7, 9); an evening Parade of Lights down C Street followed by a concert featuring David John & The Comstock Cowboys (Dec. 7); and festive rides aboard the Candy Cane Express on the Virginia & Truckee Railroad, complete with hot chocolate, spiced apple cider, cookies, candy canes and other treats (Dec. 7, 8, 14 and 15, with two departures each date). Classic Christmas films are also shown at Piper’s Opera House on Dec. 7 from 2–4 p.m.

Virginia City is one of the largest preserved historic districts in the United States, keeping intact the look and feel of an 1800s mining boomtown. Well-maintained buildings from the town’s heyday sit alongside restored 19th-century saloons, churches and museums, creating an immersive historical experience. Visitors who prefer not to explore on foot can choose a guided stagecoach, horse-drawn carriage or trolley tour to see the highlights.

For a memorable stay, choose from unique local accommodations that reflect the town’s past, including the historic Gold Hill Hotel and the Virginia City Inn, both offering period atmosphere and convenient access to downtown attractions.

Whether you’re drawn by holiday events, historic architecture or themed excursions, Virginia City provides an authentic Victorian-era backdrop for a festive winter getaway.
