Etihad A380 Returns to London: Schedules, Routes & Fare Tips

Etihad Airways will introduce Airbus A380 service on several long-haul routes when deliveries begin in late 2014. The carrier has 10 A380s on order, each configured in three classes — first, business and economy — and plans to deploy the type to London (LHR), New York (JFK), Melbourne (MEL) and Sydney (SYD).

At a press conference in Abu Dhabi, James Hogan, Etihad’s president and CEO, confirmed the A380 rollout and also announced upcoming deliveries of Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Etihad expects to receive its first 787 in the fourth quarter of this year. The airline has ordered 40 Boeing 787-9 aircraft and additional 787-10s; these Dreamliner variants will be offered in both two-class and three-class cabin layouts to suit different markets and route demands.

The A380s will allow Etihad to increase capacity and enhance onboard products on key long-haul routes, giving the airline room to expand premium offerings and improve the passenger experience. Meanwhile, the Dreamliners will provide fuel-efficient, long-range capability for a wider range of city pairs, helping Etihad match capacity with demand while lowering operational costs.

These fleet additions reflect Etihad’s broader strategy to strengthen its global network with modern, fuel-efficient aircraft and differentiated cabin products. By deploying the A380 on high-density routes and the 787 on thinner long-haul services, the airline aims to offer more frequency, better connectivity, and improved comfort across its international network.
