Minor Hotel Group is expanding its presence in the Indian Ocean with the addition of a new resort in the Seychelles. The property, to be branded AVANI Seychelles Barbarons Resort & Spa, will open after an extensive eight-month renovation of the former Le Meridien Barbarons Beach Hotel. Renovation work, valued at approximately $8 million, will modernize public areas, dining venues and accommodation while enhancing the resort’s leisure and meeting facilities.
The redesigned resort will offer 124 guestrooms and suites, each featuring a private balcony or terrace with views of the Indian Ocean. Guestroom upgrades will focus on contemporary comfort, thoughtful layouts and direct access to outdoor space to make the most of the island setting. Suites will provide additional living space and elevated amenities for families and travelers seeking a higher level of comfort.
AVANI Seychelles Barbarons Resort & Spa will deliver a range of leisure facilities for relaxation and recreation. A large freshwater swimming pool will serve as a central relaxation area, supported by a rooftop terrace and sundeck for sunbathing and panoramic ocean views. The resort will include a well-equipped fitness center and an on-site spa featuring a plunge pool and steam room, creating options for wellness and recovery. A library will provide a quiet retreat for reading and working, while the resort’s water-sports program will enable guests to explore the crystal-clear waters and marine life that define the Seychelles experience.
Dining and social spaces will be refreshed as part of the refurbishment, with upgraded restaurants and bars designed to showcase local flavors and international cuisine in relaxed, stylish settings. These outlets will be positioned to take advantage of the island’s natural beauty and to create memorable dining moments for couples, families and groups.
In addition to leisure amenities, the resort will support business and events with a ballroom capable of accommodating up to 180 guests, two boardrooms, a flexible break-out area and a business center. These facilities are intended to attract small to mid-sized conferences, incentive groups, weddings and private events, offering planners a combination of modern technology and scenic surroundings.
Dillip Rajakarier, CEO of Minor Hotel Group, noted that the company already operates six properties in the Maldives and two in Sri Lanka across multiple brands, and that the Seychelles addition is part of a broader strategy to strengthen its Indian Ocean footprint. Additional resorts under the Anantara and AVANI brands are planned across the Seychelles, Mauritius and Sri Lanka, reinforcing Minor Hotel Group’s commitment to growth in key island destinations.
The AVANI Seychelles Barbarons Resort & Spa is scheduled to welcome guests in the fourth quarter of this year, following completion of the renovation. With upgraded accommodation, refreshed dining venues, an expanded array of leisure amenities and dedicated event spaces, the resort aims to offer a contemporary island escape tailored to both leisure travelers and event organizers.
