With Vietnam reopening its borders after a decline in COVID-19 cases, Marriott International is accelerating expansion across the country. The world’s largest hotel company currently operates 10 properties in Vietnam, totaling 3,294 rooms, and is now planning a significant increase in presence to meet rising demand from both international and domestic travelers.

Over the coming years Marriott plans to add roughly 30 new hotels and nearly 9,000 rooms in Vietnam, introducing several of its leading brands to the market. New entries will include The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Marriott Hotels, Westin and Courtyard by Marriott, broadening options across luxury, full-service and select-service categories.
Sheraton Hotels & Resorts is expanding into a variety of destinations, with upcoming properties planned for Phu Quoc, the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ha Long Bay, the highland city of Da Lat, and the coastal area of Binh Chau. These openings aim to serve leisure travelers seeking beach, heritage and mountain escapes.

In central Vietnam, a new Renaissance Hotel is planned for the coastal city of Da Nang, while Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts will debut properties in both Da Nang and Cam Ranh. The flagship Marriott Hotels brand is slated for new locations in Hanoi and the historic town of Hoi An. Westin, Marriott’s wellness-focused brand, also plans hotels in Hanoi and Cam Ranh, emphasizing wellbeing amenities and services.
Marriott’s select-service brands are driving much of the expansion, delivering affordable, consistent options for travelers. Fairfield by Marriott is scheduled to open in Vinh Yen, Ha Long and Hanoi, while several Courtyard by Marriott properties will be introduced in Da Nang, Ha Long and Nha Trang, catering to both business and leisure markets.

“Vietnam is a vibrant destination and has, over the years, experienced record levels of tourism as international visitors returned and domestic travelers explored more of their own country,” said Jakob Helgen, area vice president for Marriott International in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia & Myanmar. “With borders reopening, we expect Vietnam’s tourism industry to rebound quickly.”
Marriott is also expanding into branded residences in Vietnam. In 2021 the company announced a large Marriott-branded residential project in Ho Chi Minh City that will include approximately 4,200 dual-branded residential and officetel units, planned to open in phases starting in late 2024. Additionally, The Ritz-Carlton Residences Hanoi is anticipated to debut in 2024, further strengthening Marriott’s luxury residential footprint in the market.
