British Airways is introducing a new digital luggage tag this month that can be synchronized with flight information in the BA mobile app.
Details about the program are still emerging, but the airline’s website indicates the rollout will begin in January. According to the announcement, “TAG is a digital reusable bag tag that seamlessly connects your luggage to your smartphone. Simply attach your personal TAG to your luggage before you arrive at the airport and the BA app makes sure your details travel with it along the way.”
The tag is priced at £60 (approximately $76) and is designed for long-term use; the airline states it can be reused more than 3,000 times. Rather than relying on screws or adhesive, the TAG adopts a familiar luggage-tag format, allowing it to be moved easily between suitcases and bags.
British Airways describes the product as “affordable and accessible,” noting that business travelers may be able to expense the cost. The primary goal of the digital tag is to streamline the check-in and bag-drop process by transferring passenger and flight details directly from the app to the tag.
By combining a reusable physical tag with mobile connectivity, the system aims to reduce reliance on printed tags and speed up handling at airports. Because TAG can be attached and removed like a traditional tag, passengers can use the same device across multiple trips and different pieces of luggage without modifying their bags.
As the rollout approaches, passengers should look for further instructions from British Airways on how to link a TAG to their account and what steps are required at the airport. The airline’s initial information emphasizes convenience and reusability as key benefits, positioning the product as a practical tool for frequent flyers and business travelers looking to save time during departures.
