As travel rebounds from the pandemic slowdown, hoteliers are accelerating development to meet the changing demands of upscale travelers. New hotels opening around the world aim to combine elevated design, local culture and enhanced amenities to attract discerning guests.
While the United States and China lead in the number of upcoming projects, noteworthy luxury openings are appearing across every region. Below are some of the most anticipated hotel debuts and developments scheduled for the coming year.
IN THE UNITED STATES, Washington, D.C., expects several new properties. One of the largest is Marriott Washington DC NE, set to open in spring 2023 at NoMa CNTR, a mixed-use development with abundant dining, shopping and residences. The 235-room hotel will include a restaurant and a rooftop bar.
Designer Philippe Starck will bring an arts-forward concept to the capital with MOB Hotel, the first of five North American locations. The hotel will host cultural programming and concerts throughout the year. Also slated for Washington are Arlo, a 420-room boutique property near the H Street corridor, and a second Royal Sonesta, a 274-room hotel opening near Union Station in spring 2023.

Boston welcomes Raffles Boston Back Bay Hotel & Residences, a 147-room property featuring five dining outlets, a spa, an indoor pool and a rooftop garden terrace. In Chicago, The St. Regis Chicago is scheduled to open in early 2023 with a full-service spa, indoor pool and a 5,000-square-foot ballroom.
Central Florida’s resort offerings will expand with Conrad Orlando, a 433-room hotel opening on Evermore Bay as part of Evermore Orlando Resort in summer 2023. The development includes access to two Jack Nicklaus-designed 18-hole golf courses and extensive resort amenities.

San Antonio will see multiple openings in 2023, including The Otis Hotel San Antonio, the city’s first Autograph Collection property; Arista San Antonio, a 112-room hotel near the River Walk; and a revamped InterContinental that transforms the former Wyndham San Antonio River Walk after a multimillion-dollar renovation.
Food-focused travelers should note Appellation, a new hotel brand co-founded by Chef Charlie Palmer and hotelier Christopher Hunsberger that blends culinary programming with hospitality. Launch properties include Appellation Sun Valley in Idaho and Appellation Healdsburg in Sonoma County, California.
On the West Coast, Fairmont will relaunch The Breakers, Long Beach following a major restoration of the 1920s landmark, returning a storied property to the luxury market. Nature-oriented travelers will find new options near national parks: Spirit Zion, opening in summer 2023 near Zion National Park, will offer 36 one- and two-bedroom suites and four five-bedroom homesteads on Clear Creek Mountain, while Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort, will reopen after renovation on 81 acres along Hawai‘i’s Kona Coast.
LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN are also expanding their luxury portfolios. Los Cabos will gain both a Park Hyatt and a new Four Seasons Resort and Residences at Cabo del Sol, while Mexico’s Caribbean coast will welcome The St. Regis Kanai Resort, Riviera Maya, and Riviera Maya Edition at Kanai within the new Kanai community. The St. Regis will feature a 20,000-square-foot spa and wellness center; the Edition will include a large penthouse suite.

In the Caribbean, Cabot Saint Lucia debuts on a 375-acre peninsula with an 18-hole course designed by Coore & Crenshaw. Jamaica’s Sandals Dunn’s River, scheduled to open in May 2023, will offer villa-style accommodations, SkyPool suites and private catamaran experiences. Central America will see properties such as Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo – Panama City, a 159-room hotel partially housed in a restored historic building in the Casco Viejo district.
EUROPEAN TRAVELERS have plenty of new reasons to visit. The Peninsula Hotels will open two high-profile properties: The Peninsula Istanbul in February 2023 in the Karaköy district, and The Peninsula London in April 2023 with views over Hyde Park Corner and Wellington Arch from Belgravia.

Also in London, Mandarin Oriental Mayfair will open on Hanover Square with 50 guestrooms and 79 residences, plus a spa and a restaurant led by Michelin-starred chef Akira Back. Mandarin Oriental will also debut Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino in Greece’s Peloponnese in spring 2023, featuring 99 rooms and 48 pool villas.
Rosewood Hotel Group expands in Europe with Rosewood Munich, opening in early 2023 in two historic buildings on Kardinal-Faulhaber-Strasse, and Rosewood Amsterdam, set within the former Palace of Justice overlooking Prinsengracht.
Spain’s island of Mallorca will gain Son Bunyola Mallorca, a 26-room retreat in the Tramuntana mountains managed by Virgin Limited Edition. In Greece, Ikos Odisia is scheduled to open in May 2023 on Corfu, offering an all-inclusive experience with suites, bungalows and villas, culinary contributions from Michelin-starred chefs and a comprehensive spa program.
IN AFRICA AND THE MIDDLE EAST, new luxury accommodations will highlight wildlife, desert and coastal settings. Tswalu Kalahari, South Africa’s largest privately owned reserve, will add Loapi, a lodge of six one- and two-bedroom villas positioned as the reserve’s most luxurious offering. In Qatar, Rosewood Doha will open with 185 rooms, multiple dining venues and entertainment spaces. Dubai will see Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab debut on a private beachfront with 386 rooms, four penthouses and panoramic sea views.
THE ASIA PACIFIC REGION will introduce standout properties as well. Bellustar Tokyo will occupy the 39th through 47th floors of the new Kabukicho Tower, part of a mixed hotel and entertainment complex. In Australia, W Sydney plans to open in the second quarter of 2023 on Darling Harbour; the 585-room hotel, part of a development called The Ribbon, will become the largest W-branded property worldwide.

China’s pipeline includes Hotel Nikko Changshu, located in the Changshu National New & Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, and Hotel Nikko Chengdu Yixin Lake in central Chengdu, both positioned to serve business and leisure travelers.
For wellness-focused escapes, Aleenta Chiang Mai Resort & Spa in Thailand is set to open in January 2023 under the Akaryn Hotel Group. The resort emphasizes customized medical and wellness programs with holistic treatments, nutrition-focused plans and on-site medical and healing staff to combine luxury with health-centered services.
