Etihad Airways has introduced a new airport lounge concept called “The House” at Melbourne (MEL) and Sydney (SYD) airports.
The House debuts in Australia following the concept’s recent launch at London Heathrow (LHR), developed in collaboration with lounge operator No1 Lounges. The Melbourne and Sydney facilities were updated and rebranded last month to reflect the new design and service approach.
Etihad says The House focuses on an elevated guest experience with improved food and beverage offerings and an emphasis on wellbeing and locally sourced produce. The lounges combine self-service stations with a la carte choices, and also present refreshed drink menus that include new cocktails and mocktails tailored to the locations.
Planned refurbishments over the coming year will introduce additional amenities, including dedicated reading rooms and a private room in Sydney reserved for VIPs and guests of The Residence. While the spaces are being upgraded, access rules remain as before: Etihad’s premium passengers retain complimentary entry, select partner airline premium customers will continue to be admitted, and economy passengers can purchase lounge access where available.
Linda Celestino, vice president of guest experience and delivery at Etihad Airways, commented that the rollout reinforces the carrier’s commitment to the Australian market. She noted that launching The House in Sydney and Melbourne—alongside London—underscores the importance of these gateways and signals a renewed focus on offering an enhanced airport experience for travelers to and from Australia.
The design intent for The House aims to provide a calm, contemporary environment that supports both relaxation and productivity. By blending quieter zones, social dining areas and private spaces, the lounges are intended to suit a range of traveler needs, from business passengers wanting a focused workspace to leisure travelers seeking comfort before a flight. The inclusion of locally inspired food and beverage choices is meant to give visitors a sense of place while maintaining Etihad’s global service standards.
Operationally, Etihad and its lounge partners have worked to ensure a smooth transition to the new brand without disrupting existing access arrangements. Staff training and phased refurbishments have been planned so guests continue to receive attentive service during the rollout. For frequent flyers and members of Etihad’s premium customer segments, The House is positioned as a meaningful upgrade in both amenity and ambience.
As airport lounge offerings compete increasingly on comfort, convenience and culinary quality, The House represents Etihad’s effort to modernize passenger facilities in two high-traffic Australian airports. The blend of private areas, curated menus, and wellness-focused touches reflects current trends in premium travel amenities while aligning the lounges with Etihad’s broader hospitality goals.
Travelers using Melbourne and Sydney airports in the coming months can expect staged improvements as each lounge completes its refurbishment program. The new spaces are intended to serve as a welcoming pre-flight destination that complements Etihad’s in-flight service and overall brand experience.
