Experience Kimono Culture at The Ritz-Carlton Kyoto: Guided Tours & Workshops

Experience Kyoto like a local this summer with The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto’s seasonal offer that immerses guests in the city’s deep cultural and historical traditions.

When summer arrives in Kyoto, locals often wear yukata—light, informal summer kimono—to attend lively festivals and relax outdoors at riverside dining terraces called kawa-yuka. The hotel’s “Dressed in a Traditional Yukata” summer experience gives guests a chance to join this custom and explore the city in authentic seasonal attire.

As part of the program, a yukata specialist helps each guest choose and properly wear a yukata for the day. Once dressed, visitors can wander Kyoto’s famous temples, shrines, and gardens or discover lesser-known restaurants and neighborhoods, enjoying the city from a local perspective. The hotel also arranges a professional photograph of guests in their yukata and provides a framed print as a keepsake of the stay.

Located on the peaceful banks of the Kamogawa River near Kyoto’s vibrant downtown, The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto opened recently as the brand’s first luxury urban resort in Japan. The property features 134 rooms and suites with views of the Higashiyama mountains, plus four restaurants and bars, a full-service spa, and versatile banquet spaces suited for meetings, exhibitions, private events, and corporate dinners.

The Dressed in a Traditional Yukata summer package is offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from June 26 through August 31. The package includes overnight accommodation, one in-room uchiwa (hand fan) amenity per person, one original framed photo per stay, daily half-buffet breakfast for two, one kimono fitting and rental per person, and one Ennnichi cocktail during the stay.

This seasonal offering provides a thoughtful blend of cultural immersion and modern comfort, ideal for travelers who want an authentic Kyoto experience while enjoying luxury hospitality and convenient access to the city’s historic and culinary attractions.
