Google Maps Now Lets You Book Taxis and Rideshares Like Uber

Last month, Google released an update to Google Maps that shows estimated fares for ride services like Uber and local taxis, giving users a clearer idea of how much a trip to their chosen destination might cost.

The fare estimates appear when users request directions in the Maps app. As before, Google displays travel modes such as driving, biking, walking, and public transit, along with estimated travel times for each option. The rollout began on Android, with iOS support expected to follow soon.

This update adds Uber and select taxi providers to the transport options, each accompanied by an estimated travel time. According to the Google Maps blog, the launch expands beyond Uber to include regional partners in five countries: 99Taxis in Brazil, Ola Cabs in India, Hailo in the UK and Spain, mytaxi in Germany and Spain, and Gett in the UK.

Coverage for these fare estimates is not yet global, and the update does not include every ride company such as Lyft. Still, it represents a useful enhancement for users comparing travel options, and it offers traditional taxi services a better chance to compete with tech-driven platforms by making pricing more transparent within a widely used navigation app.

The integration helps travelers quickly weigh time and cost when choosing how to get somewhere, streamlining decisions for both short errands and longer trips. By consolidating ride options and estimated fares alongside routes and transit times, Google Maps aims to make planning a trip more convenient and informative without forcing users to switch between multiple apps.

For cities and regions included in the rollout, the feature simplifies price comparisons: users can see roughly how much a taxi or an app-based ride will cost versus public transit or driving, and then decide based on convenience, speed, and price. As Google expands partnerships and platform support, more users worldwide can expect similar fare information to appear in their Maps app.
