British Airways Overhauls JFK Terminal 7: What Travelers Should Know

British Airways has revealed plans for a multimillion-dollar redesign of John F. Kennedy International Airport’s Terminal 7 in New York.

New computer-generated images show the terminal after an investment exceeding $67 million. Scheduled for completion by the end of 2018, the upgrade will include a redesigned check-in concourse with separate areas for Club World and First customers, refreshed gate seating with additional power outlets, expanded retail in the duty-free zone, updated lounges and a refurbished Concorde Room for First-class travelers. The terminal will also introduce a New York-focused culinary program featuring local food and beverage concepts inspired by the city’s street food culture.

“We are working with leading architects and designers to create a welcoming new space where customers can relax, dine and work before they fly,” said Abigail Comber, head of customer at British Airways. “The redesign at Terminal 7 is intended to deliver a smoother, faster and more comfortable airport experience. Plans include increasing seating for in-flight dining, restyling interiors, and adding new lighting, bars and furniture. We recently opened a new lounge in Boston and will next focus on Aberdeen and Rome. Geneva will be expanded and we also plan further investment in San Francisco, Chicago, Johannesburg and Manchester.”

Earlier this month, British Airways released images of its revamped lounge at Boston Logan International Airport to coincide with the start of A380 service on that route.

The airline also recently opened a new First Wing at London Heathrow’s Terminal 5, part of a $516 million program investing in premium lounges and dining. This work complements other initiatives including Club Europe cabins on domestic services, lounge refurbishments, new-generation Wi-Fi across long- and short-haul fleets, expanded self-service check-in and biometric boarding gates.
