Qantas has expanded its digital boarding pass service to include trans-Tasman flights between Australia and New Zealand, which until now was available only for domestic travel. Passengers on eligible flights can now check in with a mobile device and receive a digital boarding pass that can be used for immigration, security checks and boarding.
At present, web and mobile check-in for trans-Tasman services is available via the airline’s website, with plans to roll the feature out in the Qantas mobile app next month. The digital boarding pass option applies to single-customer itineraries on direct Qantas-marketed and Qantas-operated flights between Australia and New Zealand. It is not limited to holders of any particular passport, although travellers must meet applicable visa requirements.
This move is part of Qantas’s effort to bring the trans-Tasman travel experience closer to domestic standards in terms of speed and convenience. The airline’s initiative aligns with efforts by both the Australian and New Zealand governments to streamline border processing and improve the flow of passengers through immigration and security.
Qantas has indicated that, over time, the airline may extend its digital boarding pass offering to additional international routes, broadening the convenience of mobile check-in and paperless boarding for more travellers.
