The Luxury Collection Hotels Launching in Ukraine: What to Know

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. has announced the introduction of The Luxury Collection brand to Ukraine with the reflagging of the historic Hotel Bristol in Odessa. Originally constructed in 1898 on Pushkinskaya Street near the Black Sea, the 112-room property will be renamed Hotel Bristol, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Odessa. The hotel is scheduled to relaunch in 2014 after a renovation that will add a restaurant, a bar and nearly 10,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

The conversion brings The Luxury Collection to a culturally rich and scenic seaside city known for its architecture and maritime heritage. With this addition, travelers seeking distinctive, locally inspired stays will have access to a property that reflects Odessa’s historic character while offering upgraded facilities and services. The planned event space aims to attract both local and international business and leisure groups, enhancing the hotel’s capability to host conferences, weddings and other gatherings in a landmark setting.

“Adding Hotel Bristol to The Luxury Collection portfolio enables us to offer global travelers an authentic and memorable Odessa experience,” said Michael Wale, president of Starwood Hotels & Resorts for Europe, Africa and the Middle East. He emphasized the company’s commitment to expanding luxury offerings in cities with unique cultural appeal.

The Luxury Collection currently features more than 85 luxury hotels and resorts across 30 countries. Hotel Bristol will mark Starwood’s second property in Ukraine, joining Four Points by Sheraton Zaporozhye, which opened in 2011. By introducing a Luxury Collection hotel in Odessa, Starwood aims to strengthen its presence in the region and meet growing demand from both international visitors and domestic travelers seeking refined accommodations.

The planned renovation will modernize guest rooms and public areas while preserving the building’s historic elements. Enhancements include upgraded dining options with a full-service restaurant and bar designed to showcase regional flavors, as well as meeting rooms and flexible event spaces equipped to support contemporary business and social functions. These improvements are intended to balance modern comfort with the architectural charm that characterizes the original 19th-century structure.

Odessa’s appeal as a destination lies in its coastal location, cultural institutions, and diverse urban fabric. The hotel’s central position on Pushkinskaya Street places guests within easy reach of the city’s promenades, theaters and historic sites, offering convenient access to local attractions and waterfront activities. The Luxury Collection’s arrival in Odessa is expected to contribute to the city’s hospitality offerings by providing a high-end option that highlights local history and craftsmanship.

As part of the rebranding, the property will adopt The Luxury Collection’s service standards, which focus on personalized guest experiences, thoughtful amenities and curated local partnerships. These standards typically include attentive concierge services, bespoke guest programs and design elements that reflect the destination’s heritage. For Hotel Bristol, the goal is to combine Odessa’s storied past with contemporary hospitality features to create a distinctive stay.

Starwood’s expansion into Ukraine reflects broader trends in the hospitality industry, where established global brands seek to cultivate authentic, localized experiences in historic or culturally significant properties. By integrating modern amenities without erasing the building’s original character, the newly branded Hotel Bristol aims to appeal to discerning travelers who value both comfort and a sense of place.

The reopening in 2014 will complete the initial phase of the transformation. Further details about the renovation timeline, design partners and specific food and beverage concepts are expected to be announced closer to the opening date. In the meantime, the reflagging highlights the ongoing evolution of Odessa’s hotel scene and the role international brands play in supporting local tourism development.
