As Turkey welcomes a record 35 million visitors annually, the country—now the world’s sixth most popular tourist destination—is experiencing a surge of new boutique and luxury hotel openings across key destinations.
Recent and upcoming hotel developments include:
- The St. Regis is scheduled to open this summer in the fashionable Nişantaşı neighborhood on Istanbul’s European side.
- A new Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts property is planned for Çeşme, with opening projected in 2016.
- Istanbul will see the debut of The House Hotel Vault Karaköy this month, adding another refined option in the historic Karaköy district.
- The Sheraton Samsun Hotel, due in 2014, will be the first international five-star property in Samsun and marks Starwood’s eleventh hotel in Turkey.
- Several Hilton-branded hotels are slated to open over the next few years, including Hilton Antakya, Hilton Garden Inn Istanbul Beylikdüzü, Hampton by Hilton Istanbul Dolapdere, DoubleTree by Hilton Izmir – Alsancak, and Hilton Garden Inn Izmir Bayraklı.
- The 210-room Fairmont Istanbul will open in 2016 as part of the Quasar Istanbul complex, a new mixed-use development in the Şişli district.
- In May 2014, the Mercure Istanbul Taksim is scheduled to open in the heart of Taksim Square, offering convenient access to the city’s central attractions.
Earlier this year Turkey also added major new conference and hospitality capacity: the Hilton Istanbul Bomonti Hotel & Conference Center, the city’s largest hotel and conference venue, opened in January. January also saw the opening of the Radisson Blu Conference & Spa Hotel, Istanbul Tuzla, the brand’s seventh hotel in the city.
These openings reflect growing demand for higher-end and boutique accommodations driven by rising international arrivals, increased business travel, and expanding event and conference tourism. With luxury and lifestyle brands expanding into both historic neighborhoods and emerging districts, travelers can expect a broader range of upscale options across Istanbul and other popular Turkish destinations.
