Starwood’s Expansion in Australia: New Hotels and Development Plans

Starwood Hotels and Resorts has returned to Australia with the opening of the Sheraton Melbourne Hotel, reintroducing the Sheraton brand to the country after a nine-year absence. Situated on Little Collins Street in the heart of Melbourne, the 31-story hotel offers 174 guestrooms and suites, a restaurant, a rooftop bar, and a comprehensive wellness area that includes a heated indoor swimming pool, sauna, fitness center, and a spa with five treatment rooms. The property also provides ample meeting and event facilities, including six dedicated meeting rooms.

Sheraton Melbourne is the first of five new Sheraton properties scheduled to open in Oceania this year. Upcoming openings include Sheraton Resort & Spa Tokoriki Island in Fiji, Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Resort, Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel & Bungalows, and Sheraton New Caledonia Deva Resort & Spa.

In addition to growing the Sheraton portfolio, Starwood plans to introduce its Aloft Hotels brand to Australia with Aloft Perth Rivervale, set to open in 2016. Located in the Rivervale suburb east of Perth’s central business district, Aloft Perth Rivervale will feature 224 loft-inspired guestrooms, the brand’s signature WXYZ bar, a range of dining options, a fitness center, a swimming pool with an outdoor terrace, and approximately 5,920 square feet of meeting and event space.

Aloft Perth Rivervale will be Starwood’s third property in Perth, joining Four Points by Sheraton Perth and The Westin Perth, the latter scheduled to open in early 2017. Overall, Starwood currently operates 10 hotels across Australia and continues to expand its presence across the region.
